My meter is frozen or does not respond to any button action.
If the meter has a digital display, remove the battery and replace it with a new one. Reset the meter per instructions in owner’s manual if applicable or reset to default settings. If this does not resolve, return the meter for repair. If the meter has an analog display, return the meter for repair.
My meter reads out of tolerance when using internal calibration check and/or external MCS moisture content standard.
Replace the battery with a new one. If the meter still reads out of tolerance, return it for repair.
My meter displays a negative reading when the electrode is in contact with the material under test.
This is usually an indication the moisture content is less than the nominal low end of the meter’s range. It can also be an indication of an ‘open circuit’ in the meter or electrode/prod.
My meter readings are erratic.
Check to ensure the electrode pins and retainers are tight. Check the electrode cable connections at both ends. The cable may need re-termination or replacement.
My meter displays an upscale reading when the electrode is connected but not in contact with any material.
If the reading is HI or over-range, this is usually an indication of a ‘short’ in the electrode and it should be repaired. Electrical leakage in the electrode may also be the cause. Clean the electrode connector and the pins/retainers/insulation with denatured alcohol or a mild cleaner like Simple Green. If this does not resolve, replace the electrode.
