The 2022 International Woodworking Fair (IWF) tradeshow is coming soon, and Delmhorst is proud to be a part of this world-class woodworking event again! The IWF tradeshow brings together hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of professionals to address the latest innovations and products, provide educational workshops on woodworking issues, and enable the professionals to network with one another.

This year’s show will take place Aug. 23-26 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The tradeshow is “North America’s largest woodworking technology and design trade show and conference and a top destination for the global woodworking sector”. This tradeshow is a great opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

To help celebrate IWF 2022, Delmhorst will be re-releasing a series of guest blogs originally penned in 2018 by industry expert, Gene Wengert, The Wood Doctor!

About the Wood Doctor

Gene Wengert, also known as “The Wood Doctor,” is a well-known presence within the woodworking industry. He provides instruction in wood manufacturing and helps others diagnose their manufacturing problems with wood.

For years, he has been recognized by the industry as being able to take the challenging aspects of working with wood and turn these complexities into practical procedures and solutions. Gene’s experience covers a broad range of specific woodworking production tasks—he’s built everything from drumsticks to furniture.

Gene’s woodworking career began with his time at the Forest Products Lab in Madison, Wisconsin. There, he worked on an early version of the solar-heated lumber dryer. Afterward, he moved to work at Virginia Tech as an Extension faculty member specializing in wood products.

Following his stint as a researcher at Virginia Tech, Gene transferred back to Wisconsin as an Extension specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. When he retired from UW-Madison, he was granted Emeritus faculty status for his contributions there.

Since retiring from UW-Madison, Gene started his own consulting company, The Wood Doctor’s Rx LLC, where he provides education and analysis for wood manufacturers. Over the course of his career, Gene has written eight books and more than 600 articles on the practical aspects of wood manufacturing.

We are honored that he has agreed to share his knowledge about moisture content and woodworking in the seven articles planned for this blog series. You can look forward to seeing these articles in our blog over the coming weeks!
